Justice and Peace launches Concerted Action against Racism |

The Conference of European Justice and Peace Commissions, a network of 30 national Justice and Peace Commissions, has launched its Concerted Action 2012. The action “Invest in Young People to Combat Racism and Political Extremism“ and is against racism and political extremism in Europe. The Concerted Action call on political leaders to to rebuild young people’s trust in the political system and promote educational opportunities for all young people.

Auf der Suche nach der neuen Programmgeneration der EU-Bildungsprogramme nach 2013 machten 20 Expertinnen und Experten der katholischen Jugendarbeit und Erwachsenbildung am 26./27.3. 2012 Brüssel unsicher. Unter dem Titel „Europa der Generationen“ informierten sie sich aus erster Hand bei EU-Kommission, EU-Parlament und Lobbyvertretungen über den Stand der Beratungen für die Zukunft der Programme JUGEND IN AKTION, Leonardo, Grundtvig, Comenius und Erasmus.

CULT-Committee invites Experts |

On 27 March the CULT-Committee of the European Parliament invited experts and stakeholders to a public hearing on the future EU programme for education and youth. In their presentations, the four experts agreed in one main point: They called for a sectoral approach with budget lines for each sector. A large attendance of stakeholders from the field of education and youth showed the huge interest in the experts’ comments and the replies of the MEP.

Validation of Non-Formal Learning – Results of the Public Consultation |

One year ago the European office responded to a public consultation on the promotion and validation of non-formal and informal learning. The European Commission has now published the results of the consultation: The European Commission received 469 responses to the online questionnaire, 24 organisations answered with a position paper, among them the European office in cooperation with several catholic organisations. In the EU2020 strategy and its flagship initiatives Youth on the Move and Agenda for new skills and jobs the European Commission announced a proposal for a Council Recommendation on the validation of non-formal and informal learning – the public consultations was launched to prepare this proposal. |

EU Youth Conference recommends lowering the voting age |

2012-03-22 The Danish Council Presidency had invited youth delegates and Directors General of the EU Member States to a Youth Conference which took place from 19-21 March in Copenhagen. The EU Youth Conference is an element of the Structured Dialogue between the EU and young people and focussed on “Youth Participation in Democratic Life in Europe”. In their joint recommendations, the youth delegates and Directors General recommended lowering the voting age to 16 and a strong new programme for education and youth. |

Focus on youth unemployment in Europe |

2012-02-15 Both the European Commission and the Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council focused on youth unemployment in Europe: Latest statistics show that an average of more than 20% of 15-24 year olds in the EU are unemployed – that are more than 5 million young people. In some countries, such as Spain, youth unemployment is edging close to 50%. The time has come to act on European level. |
