  • The social consequences of the financial crisis
    The plenary session of the European Economic and Social Committee, to be held on February 22-23, will address civil society's main concerns about the current economic crisis and its social consequences. José Manuel Barroso is going to explain the European Commission's position on the Europe 2020 Strategy and outline the preparation of the Spring European Council and the Vice-President of the European Commission Joaquín Almunia will discuss the reform of State aid with the EESC.

  • Time to celebrate: Erasmus celebrates 25 years
    Erasmus, that the European Commission likes to barnd "the world's most successful student exchange programme", celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Nearly three million students have benefited from a study period or work placement abroad since the creation of the Erasmus programme in 1987.
